The trailer is out for M3GAN, the new horror-thriller from Saw and The Conjuring mastermind James Wan and the horror experts at Blumhouse — and it brings the nightmarish concept of a killer doll powered by AI to life.

Directed by Gerard Johnstone, Allison Williams (Girls) stars in the horror-thriller as Gemma, a scientist who creates M3GAN (voiced by Jenna Davis, acted by Amie McDonald) with the hope of giving her niece Cady, who has just lost her parents, a “perfect toy” that will always love and protect her. But soon, M3GAN begins defying Gemma’s commands — and seeking out deadly revenge against Cady’s bullies.

In the spirit of Chuckie, Annabelle, and even Haley Joel Osment’s David in A.I. Artificial Intelligence, the trailer for M3GAN promises a hair-raising adventure toward the dangerous limits of artificial intelligence.

James Wan shares a story-by credit with screenwriter Akela Cooper, whose other writing credits include American Horror Story, Luke Cage, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Grimm, and The 100. James Wan also serves as a producer on M3GAN along with Blumhouse’s Jason Blum and executive producers Allison Williams, Mark Katchur, Ryan Turek, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Adam Hendricks, and Greg Gilreath.

Other cast members of the chilling, futuristic sci-fi horror-thriller include Ronny Chieng (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Brian Jordan Alvarez (Will & Grace), Jen Van Epps (Cowboy Bebop), Lori Dungey (Cowboy Bebop) and Stephane Garneau-Monten (Straight Forward).

In addition to Blumhouse, the film also hails from Universal Pictures and Atomic Monster in association with Divide/Conquer.

Plus, Taylor Swift fans will be excited to hear that the trailer features Swift’s new song “It’s Nice to Have a Friend.”

M3GAN arrives in theaters on January 13, 2023. Watch the trailer above.
