I must be psychic. Last week I predicted that Iron Man 2 would win the box office, and lo and behold, it happened! Man, I should take my predictive powers to Vegas. The superhero sequel took in a substantial $133.6 million in its opening weekend. Last weekend’s number one, A Nightmare on Elm Street, took spot number two, earning a mere $9.1 million, bringing its total gross to $48.5 million. How to Train Your Dragon was pushed down to spot three, with a weekend gross of $6.7 million and a total gross of $201 million. Spots four and five went to Date Night ($5.3 million weekend gross, $80.8 million total) and The Back-up Plan ($4.3 million weekend, $29.5 million total), respectively.

Other new releases included the documentary Babies, which had a trailer so sweet-looking it could probably rot your teeth; the movie took the number ten spot, earning $1.5 million. Mother and Child took in $44,488, Casino Jack and the United Sates of Money $26,600 and Multiple Sarcasms $16,400.

Out next weekend and challenging Iron Man 2 for its box office crown (good luck with that) is Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, Just Wright, and Letters to Juliet. Out in limited release is Princess Kaiulani.
