Danny Glover and Mel Gibson play a pair of LAPD detectives — Roger Murtaugh and Martin Riggs in the 1987 classic buddy cop action movie Lethal Weapon.

This pair was so iconic that they ignited a whole franchise. Though they don’t get along at first, they, too, go from enemies to best friends.

Maybe Lethal Weapon didn’t invent the dynamic where one partner is wild and crazy and the other is too old for this, but the franchise perfected it.
