How to Train Your Dragon rebounded from spot number three to spot number one this past weekend, nearly a month after its original release. It earned $20 million over the weekend, bringing its total gross to $158.6 million. The number two spot went to new release Kick-Ass, which earned $19.7 million. Date Night took spot number three, with $17.3 million and a total gross of $49.2 million. Chris Rock’s adaptation of the British comedy Death at a Funeral came in at spot number four with $17 million. Clash of the Titans, which had been the number one movie at the box office last weekend, fell all the way to spot number five, earning $15.7 million, with a total gross of $132.9 million.

Other new releases were The Joneses, which earned $554,489; The Perfect Game, which earned $480,000; and the Oscar-winner The Secret in Their Eyes, which earned $176,389. The much-buzzed-about Exit Through the Gift Shop, directed by famous street-artist Banksy, earned $166,126 in its first weekend of release. James Ivory’s The City of Your Final Destination, also new, earned $25,000 on just one screen.

Out next weekend are comic book adaptation The Losers, the Jennifer Lopez comedy The Back-up Plan, the new A Nightmare on Elm Street and Furry Vengeance. Out in limited release are Harry Brown, Please Give, Gunless, The Wildest Dream and Hey, Hey, It’s Esther Blueburger. Can any of these movies take on a fire-breathing dragon? We’ll see next week!
