  • Honestly, if you want to get feedback on your screenplay, ask people you know who write. Those of us who write hate other peoples' stuff unless it's actually worthwhile. As for Fresh Voices, if you want someone to prove they half-read, or didn't bother to actually read your screenplay, and provide feedback that has nothing to do with what you wrote, then you'll love their competition. It's pretty scammy. Take your money. Have someone write a logline that has nothing to do with your screenplay. Have someone give feedback that is super cookie cutter from whatever film class they took, or are in, but no actual thoughts on what you wrote about. It's pretty gross, honestly. I'm sure they enjoy collecting the $, but for those of us who wanted actual useful feedback from this exercise, it's disappointing to say the least. If you're not going to read my stuff, fine. Just say that. I can actually deal with that. But to take my money and then provide feedback that shows you maybe kinda browsed it... why did I pay for this? Then again, I suspect a lot of the people reading these things are students who don't really give a sh#t anyway, aside from whatever they might get paid to go through a zillion scripts. The truth of the matter is you probably just have to get feedback from honest people you know who are willing to read what you wrote, get it to where you think it's worthwhile, and make it yourself. Hollywood is set up with agencies and these stupid contests as gatekeepers for writing talent, which is why most of what Hollywood makes is garbage and takes zero risks. There is no way they should expect a person who is asked to read a script (and who pretty obviously does not, or has no reading comprehension) to also understand whether or not a script is marketable, whether it would appeal to acting talent... you're telling me some person sitting in their house reading scripts all day has any clue how any of that works? Ask them a simple question. Would this movie entertain you or would you feel ripped off? Then again, a movie like Bonnie and Clyde wouldn't get made today. Bonnie's "motivation" to leave with Clyde in the first place would be too "unclear." So... whatever man. This competition is not what they advertise. I'd love feedback on how to make a script better, but the person needs to read it first. Just sayin'.
