4. Always Be Polite, But Firm

Talking money is never fun, especially when you are not represented. But for the good of you, your well being, and for the future of your writing career, you have to talk money. And when you do, be sure to be polite and humble. “I have to make some money to justify the time spent” is better than “I don’t work for free.”
