Besties Thelma (Davis) and Louise (Sarandon) hit the road after Thelma is violently assaulted outside a country & western bar somewhere out in the great American west. Louise guns the would-be rapist down, setting the two off on an increasingly spiked and curving path through the backwoods world of homicide, theft, sex, and stupidity. Screenwriter Callie Khouri suggests it’s a sexist society that forces women into the role of anti-heroes, with no other path to justice and safety available but the renegade one.
