David Harbour isn’t the Santa Claus we expected in the trailer for Universal Pictures’ action-comedy Violent Night — but he’s the Santa we needed.
When a team of bad guys break into a wealthy family’s home on Christmas Eve and take everyone hostage in order to get their hands on $300 million, no one is expecting Santa Claus himself to step forward as a vigilante crime-fighting hero. But it turns out, Harbour’s Santa Claus doesn’t just have a taste for milk and cookies — he also craves justice.
From director Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters), Violent Night also stars Emmy winner John Leguizamo (The Menu), Cam Gigandet (Without Remorse), Alex Hassell (Cowboy Bebop), Alexis Louder (The Tomorrow War), Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones) and Beverly D’Angelo (National Lampoon’s Vacation).
Violent Night also comes from 87North’s Kelly McCormick, David Leitch, and Guy Danella, the producers behind Bullet Train, John Wick, Deadpool 2, and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. The film is written by Sonic the Hedgehog’s Pat Casey and Josh Miller and is executive produced by Marc S. Fischer.
Best known for playing Jim Hopper in Stranger Things, David Harbour also starred in 2019’s Hellboy reboot. He’s also had roles in Revolutionary Road, Suicide Squad, Black Widow, Black Mass, Quantum of Solace, Brokeback Mountain, and War of the Worlds (2005).
Just in time for Christmas, Violent Night arrives in theaters on Dec. 2.
