MANAGING EDITOR

Duties include:

  • Producing, alongside the Editor-in-Chief, Art Director, Associate Editor and Assistant Editor, four print issues of MovieMaker Magazine a year. This includes everything from developing story ideas, assigning and managing writers, illustrators and photographers, sourcing photographs and artwork, and proofing and fact-checking copy in layout form, to tracking ads, overseeing shipment to various distribution outlets, promoting the issue on different platforms and preparing the digital edition.
  • Spearheading MovieMaker‘s annual roster of “flagship” articles, such as “50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee,” “Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker,” “25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World,” and others.
  • Working with the Associate Editor to maintain a competitive website and social media platforms. With him, leading the effort to build website traffic and revenue. Writing articles and conducting interviews for online. Generating social media posts across our platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube).
  • Assisting in subscription management; coordinating subscription drives and other promotions throughout the year.
  • Acting as a brand ambassador for the magazine: attending festivals and other events and forming relationships with film companies, filmmakers and other industry personnel.
  • With advertising department, generating and executing sponsored editorial.
  • Participating in new ancillary MovieMaker initiatives, including eBooks, podcast, app, original video or episodic content, compilation books and others.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of previous editorial experience at a journalistic print publication
  • Impeccable writing and communication skills in English
  • Knowledge of and passionate interest in independent film and the industry. Your own filmmaking experience is a bonus
  • Deep familiarity with social media platforms across the spectrum
  • Previous experience with SEO and analytics
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Adobe Creative Suite, nonlinear editing software and AP Style
