The nominations for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards have been announced. Leading the way with nine nominations respectively, including Best Picture nods, were James Cameron’s Avatar and Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker. The former husband and wife also received nominations in the Best Achievement in Directing category. Ten films will have a shot at winning Best Picture for the first time since 1944, when Casablanca took home the Oscar. Lee Daniels (Precious) will try and become the first African American to win Best Director. Along with John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood, 1991), he’s just the second African American to be nominated. Bigelow is the fourth woman to be nominated for Best Director. She would be the first woman to win the award.

Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin will co-host the ceremony at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood on March 7, 2010.
