Renner plays the lead role of Gary Webb in Kill The Messenger, the 2014 biographical crime drama directed by Michael Cuesta based on the true story of a reporter who, in 1996, began investigating the CIA’s role in distributing crack cocaine to the Black neighborhoods of Los Angeles during the 1980s in order to help freedom fighters in Nicaragua.
