‘The Moment in Heat Where De Niro’s Gang Slashes the Vacuum Sealed Bag of Money’

Heat is an obvious influence on The Dark Knight, especially the opening bank robbery scene. Nolan even cast Heat actor William Fichtner as the bank president who informs the Joker (Heath Ledger) and his clown-masked crew that they’re robbing a mob bank.

It’s hard to guess what Nolan finds so fascinating about this scene, when the vacuum-sealed money bag gets slashed, but it’s on Shone’s list. Here it is at the three-minute mark:
