Emmy nominations are out for the 2022 awards ceremony, and there are several first-time Emmys occurrences this year. From Netflix’s Squid Game becoming the first foreign language series to be nominated for Outstanding Drama Series to Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney getting two nominations after never being nominated before, there’s a lot to look forward to this year when the Primetime Emmys air in September.
It’s also worth noting that HBO’s Succession earned the most nominations on Tuesday with a grand total of 25. HBO made off like a bandit with this year’s noms, racking up the most overall of all the networks. White Lotus earned 20, Hacks earned 17 and Euphoria earned 16. In total, HBO scored a whopping 140 nominations network-wide.
Honrable mentions include Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso, which got 20 nominations, Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, which got 17, and Netflix’s Squid Game, which got 14.

Netflix’s Squid Game is making history yet again, this time as the first non-English language series to be nominated in the Outstanding Drama category. It has previously made history as the number one Netflix series of all time with a staggering 1.65 billion hours streamed just in the first four weeks it debuted on the platform. Squid Game earned 14 nominations in total — the most ever for a foreign language show.
Two of Squid Game‘s stars also became first-time acting nominees: Jung Ho-yeon, a fan-favorite (and popular Halloween costume) who played Kang Sae-byeok, and Lee Jung-jae, who played the main protagonist Seong Gi-hu.
