Another CBS classic, The Andy Griffith Show ran on the network from 1960 to 1968, starring Andy Griffith as small-town sheriff Andy Taylor living in the fictional community of Mayberry, North Carolina.
Don Knotts played bumbling but lovable deputy Barney Fife, Frances Bavier played Andy’s housekeeper, Aunt Bee, Jim Nabors played naive auto mechanic Gomer Pyle, and a young Ron Howard played Andy’s son Opie long before he went on to star in Happy Days and later direct classic movies like Apollo 13, Splash, and A Beautiful Mind.
