There’s a fun moment in Wayne’s World where Wayne and Garth use a blue screen to imagine themselves traveling to different exotic locales. They flip from New York City (“I’ve got a gun, let’s get to a Broadway show!”) to Hawaii (“Pass the poi, mahalo!”) to Texas (“Howdy partners! Let’s raise and rope Broncos!”) to… Delaware.
“Hi,” says Wayne Campbell, played by Mike Myers, as a nondescript bridge appears behind him. “I’m in Delaware.”
Delaware has never fired Hollywood’s imagination — it’s overshadowed by nearby Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Baltimore, all of which have provided the setting for countless classic films.
But now the First State (that’s what Baltimore is called) has produced its first president. Perhaps Joe Biden being elected will raise the cinematic profile of his lovely, adopted home state, and we’ll get more films set in Delaware. Is anyone making The Joe Biden Story?

I am a Delawarean, was always cool to see/hear a mention in a film or a song ("Award Tour" by Tribe Called Quest & "Rockin' It" by Brand Nubian) when I was younger. But as a working independent actor/producer in the Mid Atlantic for more than a decade,sadly Delaware has offered little to no hopes in building any foundation for an industry, which in turn makes casual mentions such as those almost more like jabs or even insults! Another film that was partially set in Delaware fictionally was "Seeking A Friend for the End of the World" with Steve Carell. A couple of films that WERE made here are "Dead Poets Society" with Robin Williams and "Mayor Cupcake" with Lea Thompson, and a indie featured I produced with director Joseph Johnson, "Love and Deceit" set to hit streaming platforms in early 2021. Got a solid list of celebrities that are from here; Aubrey Plaza, Ryan Phillippe, Sean Patrick Harris, Doug Hutchinson, Elisabeth Shue, Valerie Bertinelli, Judge Rienhold, and OSCAR winning director Luke Matheny. There is a very rich theater culture hear with many companies ranging from professional to community, consistently putting on shows with deep pools of actors of various ages, genders, and ethnicity to call upon. So one would think that the first state would definitely be pushing to be utilized within the entertainment industry, but oh not so. However when Amazon, Wal-Mart, and Purdue come around wanting land to build a new plant, oh sure, go right ahead!!! You want to make it in showbiz, GET OUT OF DELAWARE, LOL!
That "high school girl" in "Hiding Out" is the great-in-everything Annabeth Gish, even before her breakout role in "Mystic Pizza" (overshadowed a little by Julia Roberts).
