6. Mórbido Film Fest // Mexico City, Mexico // October 26-November 5, 2017

Steeped in the cultural flavor of its home turf of Mexico City, Mórbido Film Fest, now celebrating its 10th anniversary, is a “very different animal” from what many have come to expect from the region, says a panelist. Each year’s programming—which runs the gamut from a Brutal Midnight Section to children’s horror fare—switches up according to its selected theme. Attendees can sit ringside for traditional Mexican wrestling matches in between screenings, and award-winners take home Day of the Dead-inspired sugar skulls as keepsakes. “Every event is huge, choreographed, well-run and designed,” a panelist says of the “colorful and lively affair. The festival itself is as entertaining as the films that show there.”
