Headed up by the mighty director Edna Campos, the only woman currently at the reins of a premiere Mexican genre festival, Macabro is the country’s first, and biggest, of its kind, “one that’s run with passion and imagination and shouldn’t be missed,” says a panelist. With the backing of the Mexico City government, Mexican Film Institute, and other key institutions, Macabro delivers master classes and guided tours through the surrounding area’s hotspots on top of its stellar film exhibition. Past guests have included terror titans like Lamberto Bava, Luigi Cozzi, Stuart Gordon and more, and special screenings have been, when silent, accompanied by live piano performance, or even held in the Panteón de San Fernando graveyard.
