Sam Taylor-Johnson
Taylor-Johnson began her career in fine art, working on digital design and video installations. In 2008, she signed on to direct her first feature film, Nowhere Boy, which chronicled the early life of John Lennon. With a budget of a little over $2 million, Nowhere Boy grossed $6 million and opened up opportunities for her career. She capitalized on this and signed on to direct Fifty Shades of Grey, based on the hit novel. On a budget of $40 million, her film went on to gross $571 million worldwide and was, by all accounts, a massive success. MM
