R; 110 minutes
It wasn’t the first time that Leonard Kraditor (Joaquin Phoenix), a thirtysomething bachelor still living with his mom (Isabella Rossellini) and dad (Moni Moshonov) and working in the family business, had tried to kill himself. Unhappy with his humdrum life in Brooklyn following a recent heartbreak, but afraid to separate himself from the obligations he has to his loving parents, he continues to find himself almost willingly trapped. In an effort to help him find a girlfriend, his father invites a business associate, his wife, and pretty daughter Sandra (Vinessa Shaw) to dinner one night. Both Leonard and Sandra understand the situation and begin to date. All goes well until Leonard meets up with Michelle (Gwyneth Paltrow), a beautiful blonde who lives in the apartment across the courtyard. Even though the very confused Michelle is married, Leonard falls madly in love with her. But can he deal with this jumbled situation?
