Video Views Pick: Crank 2—High Voltage

directed by Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor
R; 86 minutes
As implausible as it may seem, a man fell from the sky onto a busy Los Angeles street… and lived. Not so improbable if you know that it was the indestructible Chev Chelios (Jason Statham). He’s immediately whisked up by a gang of Asian thugs, who throw him onto an operating table and remove his heart, replacing it with an artificial one connected to a battery with a fairly short life. After escaping from his captors, Chelios calls his unlicensed doctor pal (Dwight Yoakam), who tells him that if can keep himself alive by continually recharging the battery and if he can find his heart, Yoakam will be able to put it back in. But time is limited, and Chelios’ path—which takes him to a whore house, strip club and racetrack—is loaded with violence. The gore is not for the skittish; the language and sex are not for the prudish; and the humor is surreal to say the least.

DVD Extras: Two-disc has commentary; “Making-of” documentary; “Crank 2: Take 2” featurette.
