Established a little over 15 years ago, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts has already managed to become one of the go-to places for anybody wanting to learn the art of moviemaking. Far removed from the lights of New York and temptations of Hollywood, the school’s Filmmaking program has an impressive track record for breeding in-demand moviemakers like Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green and cinematographer Tim Orr. The school’s also gotten a reputation for fostering the sorts of collaborative relationships between students that got former classmates Jody Hill, Ben Best, and Danny McBride to make their career-changing movie, The Foot Fist Way. Film school dean, Jordan Kerner, tells us what makes his school stand out from the pack.
