TFI Announces Grant for American Latino Moviemakers

The 2011 Tribeca Film Festival is underway, and with that comes not only world premieres and up-and-coming indie superstars, but also increased awareness of the year-round efforts of the Tribeca Film Institute (TFI) to encourage the independent moviemaking community. The TFI Latin American Media Fund, together with Tribeca Film Festival’s longstanding partner Heineken USA, today announced the creation of the Heineken Voces Grant, which will support Hispanic moviemakers in their creation of films reflecting the diversity of the Hispanic community.

What makes the Heineken Voces Grant unique is its specific focus on American Latinos; TFI’s Director of Documentary Programming Ryan Harrington sees the grant as an opportunity to provide support to Hispanic moviemakers in the United States. “Through this partnership with Heineken we are able to address the needs of the thriving and talented community of American Latino filmmakers. We look forward to helping the selected grantees by providing benefits that will include rough and fine cut screenings, notes sessions, buyer screenings and festival and distribution planning, among many other elements.”

Moviemakers awarded the grant will receive funding, as well as guidance and consultation from the Tribeca Film Institute, to help them complete their films. Submissions will be accepted via www.tribecafilminstitute.org starting in September 2011; applicants must be currently in production of a feature-length film to be considered.
