Think Like a Man Continues to Dominate

New wide releases The Pirates! Band of Misfits, The Five-Year Engagement, Safe and The Raven failed to snatch the number one spot out of the hands of last week’s winner, Think Like a Man (weekend gross $18 million, total gross $60.8 million), which returned to the top of the box office for the second week running.

Second place went to Pirates with its weekend gross of $11.4 million, while another holdover from last week, The Lucky One (weekend gross $11.3 million, total gross $39.9 million), claimed spot number three. The Hunger Games‘ $11.2 million weekend gross (total gross $372.4 million) was just enough to get it to number four. Meanwhile, Nicholas Stoller’s The Five-Year Engagement performed rather poorly over its opening weekend, its $11.1 million gross only enough to get it to spot number five.

Other new releases Safe and The Raven failed to crack the top five entirely, earning $7.7 million and $7.2 million over the weekend and coming in at spots six and seven, respectively.

As unsuccessful a weekend as it was for new releases, next weekend’s lone new release did pretty well for itself, at least as far as international box office is concerned. The Avengers, which opened in a slew of countries over the weekend and comes to others—including the U.S. and Canada—this Friday, has so far earned $178 million, breaking records in the U.K. (where its $24.7 million haul gave it Disney’s best three-day weekend) as well as Mexico, Brazil, Hong Kong and more (where its opening was the biggest ever).

Back at the domestic box office, movies out in limited release included Bernie ($90,438 on only three screens for a whopping $30,146 per-theater gross), Sound of My Voice ($40,069) and Elles ($24,400).

Competing with The Avengers next weekend for box office dominance (ha ha—just kidding!) are limited releases Death of a Superhero (ironic, no?), The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, First Position, Last Call at the Oasis, A Little Bit of Heaven, LOL, Meeting Evil and The Perfect Family. MM
