The Social Network Tops the Box Office Again

The Social Network, the movie poised to take down Facebook… or at least make people say “Man, that Mark Zuckerberg’s a piece of work, huh?… I wonder what my Farmville’s up to?” made it to the top of the box office for the second week in a row, earning $15.5 million over the weekend. The David Fincher film’s total gross so far is $46.1 million. Second place went to new release Life as We Know It, which earned $14.6 million on its first weekend. Fellow new release Secretariat came in at number three, with a weekend gross of $12.6 million. Rounding out the top five were Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole (weekend gross $7 million, total gross $39.4 million) and new release My Soul to Take ($6.9 million).

Other new releases were It’s Kind of a Funny Story ($2 million), Stone ($73,000), Nowhere Boy ($56,065), Inside Job ($42,017), I Spit on Your Grave ($33,000), Tamara Drewe ($19,282), GhettoPhysics: Will the Real Pimps and Ho’s Please Stand Up? ($10,229) and As Good as Dead ($2,093).

Out next weekend in wide release are Red and Jackass 3D. With the latter movie it seems 3D has finally found its calling in life—presenting guys getting violently smacked around, followed by a good chuckle. All the stuff with kids movies and swooping owls is secondary. Out in limited release are Conviction, Carlos (total running time: 330 minutes), Down Terrace, Carmo, Gerrymandering, I Want Your Money, Legacy, N-Secure, Samson & Delilah and The Trouble with Terkel.
