Lamotta: The Bronx Bull investigates the life of Jake Lamotta, the middleweight boxing champion, form his youth to his retirement.

The film premiered last April at the Newport Beach Film Festival, where MovieMaker spoke to director Martin Guigui, actor Tom Sizemore, who plays Tony, and actor Mojean Aria, who plays the young Jake Lamotta. In the interview, the trio discusses how the ideal approach to making a movie is to have everyone on set to “paint the same painting, holding the same brush.” Guigui commends the actors on their performances, revealing how Sizemore brought a new perspective to the gangster of the film’s era by taking the character away from the stereotype. Guigui also highlights how Aria outperformed 700 other actors who auditioned for the role of Lamotta. Aria describes what drew his attention to the script: “The will to be a champion. And facing adversity.”
