The Palm Beach County Film & Television Commission (FTC) has announced that the 2009 Student Showcase of Films (SSOF) Audience Award competition is now open to the public. The winner of the Audience Award, which will be presented at the SSOF awards ceremony, will receive $2,000. The top nine films, as voted on by industry professionals from around the country, are as follows: A Knock at the Door, Alternate, Aluminum Man, Bill Lund: River Keeper of the Loxahatchee, Figmentation, Flowers, Scavengers, The Last Laugh and Wednesday.

The Student Showcase of Films (SSOF) is the largest statewide competition for aspiring Florida moviemakers. It recognizes outstanding high school and college students by presenting more than $25,000 in cash prizes, awards and scholarships in five categories: Feature/Shorts and Documentaries, Animation, PSA/Commercial, Music Video and Audience Award.

The Student Showcase of Films awards ceremony, a much-anticipated staple of the annual Palm Beach International Film Festival (PBIFF), will be held on April 28, 2009 in Palm Beach County, FL. The winning student films will be screened in their entirety at the students’ own premiere during the film festival.
