Director-producer Steven Spielberg, whose Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull hits theaters in May, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Visual Effects Society Awards show on February 10. Each year, this award recognizes one moviemaker who has had a tremendous impact on the art and science of visual effects. Throughout his career, Spielberg has consistently been at the forefront of visual innovation.
For Eric Roth, executive director of the Visual Effects Society (VES), Spielberg was an obvious choice for their highest honor. “As a director and a producer, he is constantly pushing the boundaries of the industry and rethinking the function of visual effects in film, TV, video games and animation to find new and innovative methods of storytelling,” he says. “There are very few artists who have done more to move the VFX industry forward.”
The VES Awards honor exceptional achievements in the visual effects of film, television, commercials and video games. Past winners of the VES Lifetime Achievement Award include Robert Zemeckis, George Lucas and Dennis Muren. The 6th Annual VES Awards will take place at the Kodak Theatre Grand Ballroom in Hollywood.
