Grindhouse, last spring’s double bill from directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez, may have disappeared faster than expected from theaters after surprisingly meager box office returns. But fans will have the chance to watch the anthology film as the directors intended it to be seen, as Starz plans to air Grindhouse in its all schlocky, exploitation glory on March 31st at 9 p.m.
Grindhouse features Rodriguez’s zombie flick Planet Terror, starring Rose McGowan as a one-legged stripper, and Quentin Tarantino’s thriller Death Proof, with Kurt Russell as the murderous Stuntman Mike. For both films, Tarantino and Rodriguez purposely sought the grimy look of a cheap ‘70s pulp movie, with bad cuts, missing scenes and some damaged film stock. In addition to the two feature-length movies, Grindhouse also includes fake B-movie trailers directed by splatter-masters Rodriguez, <a href="http://www.moviemakersub.moviemaker.com/articles/article/halloween_too/" title="Rob Zombie (Halloween”>Rob Zombie (Halloween), <a href="http://www.moviemakersub.moviemaker.com/directing/article/arrested_development_3402/" title="Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead)”>Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) and <a href="http://www.moviemakersub.moviemaker.com/directing/article/lowbudget_horror_film_a_careermaker_for_firsttime_moviemaker_2661/" title="Eli Roth (Hostel”>Eli Roth (Hostel). Several famous faces embraced the spirit of the project by appearing in the trailers, including Nicolas Cage, Cheech Marin and Jason Isaacs.
