SnagFilms, an online destination for watching feature-length documentaries, has announced that its online documentary festival, the SnagFilms SummerFest, will kick off with the U.S. premiere of Jonathan Bricklin’s film The Entrepreneur, produced by Morgan Spurlock of Super Size Me fame. Visitors to the site will be able to watch The Entrepreneur for free during the week following July 24th. The Entrepreneur tells the story of Jonathan’s father, Malcolm, and his seemingly impossible dream to create a new American car company. All of the films to be featured in the SnagFilms SummerFest have not yet been distributed via theater or television.

“Digital distribution is quickly becoming the fastest way to reach the most viewers in the shortest amount of time,” says Spurlock. “This exclusive, U.S. premiere, one-week engagement is an example of how SnagFilms is opening up new distribution channels and opportunities for documentary filmmakers.”

The SnagFilms SummerFest coincides with SnagFilms’ one-year anniversary; since the Website launched in 2008, SnagFilms widgets, which enable viewing of documentary features, have been placed on more than 25,000 Websites, from individual users’ Facebook pages to the Website of the New York Times. “Since its launch one year ago,” states SnagFilms CEO Rick Allen, “SnagFilms has been able to liberate documentaries from screening only at festival or in the traditional 200-seat theatrical venues in limited release in just New York or Los Angeles and bring these important films to potentially millions of viewers nationwide.”
