Looks like Shrek is still king of the box office. Get Him to the Greek and Killers were unable to unseat him from the top spot; Shrek Forever After earned $25.3 million this weekend (total gross $183 million), while Get Him to the Greek took the number two spot with a weekend gross of $17.4 million and Killers earned $16.1 million, enough to grab spot number three. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time took spot number four with $13.8 million (total gross $59.4 million), while Sex and the City 2 came in at spot number five with $12.6 million (total gross $73.4 million).
What this all means (apart from the fact that moviegoers apparently really like green ogres with Scottish accents) is that new release Marmaduke failed to crack the top five. The comic strip-based movie came in at number six with a weekend gross of only $11.3 million. Splice, also a new release, earned $7.4 million. Out in limited release were Ondine ($28,200), Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead ($4,800), Finding Bliss ($2,500) and Convention ($1,220).
Next weekend, be prepared for some remakes! The A-Team and The Karate Kid both come out in wide release, while the non-remake (and Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner) Winter’s Bone is out in limited release.
