Shorts International and Mass Animation announced the release of Live Music, an animated short film, which will be simultaneously released in theaters and on iTunes. The short film will play on 500 theaters prior to Sony’s Planet 51 and will be available on iTunes as of November 20, 2009. The film marks a collaborative effort between Shorts International, Mass Animation and Facebook fans of the project. The parent companies established a virtual studio for the film on Facebook and asked for fan input and advice for its development. The film attracted 58,000 fans and 51 of these fans were awarded with credit on the final project.

Carter Pilcher, the Chief Executive of Shorts International notes that the project’s, “innovative use of Facebook, Live Music has broken the barriers to filmmaking. Anyone with drive, determination and talent can be part of a collaborative effort and create high-quality, entertaining work from the comfort of their own home.”

In addition to the film, Shots International will release a documentary, Live Music: Behind the Scenes, which chronicles the development process and will feature some of the artists and animators who worked via Facebook on the film. The documentary will be available on iTunes on November 26, 2009 and will also air on ShortsHD at 9pm on the same night.
