The Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series is a three-day annual film festival organized by African Voices Magazine and Long Island University’s Media Arts Dept., Brooklyn Campus. Established in 1997, Reel Sisters (www.reelsisters.org) is dedicated to providing opportunities for women of color filmmakers to showcase their work and advance their careers in the film industry. Reel Sisters is one of the first festivals to stimulate an international dialogue on improving the status of female directors, producers and screenwriters. It is a launching pad for women directors to gain international exposure and recognition.
