“Something Real”

Definitely, the most difficult aspect during the production of “Something Real” was the financing. The project was realized through two public production scholarships in Mexico, but to obtain such funds entailed arduous work preparing multiple version of the production binder and applying to various calls for submissions until we accomplished being selected for these two funds.

Even with the immense support that these two scholarships represented, I personally invested capital and a large part of the crew surrendered their salaries in hopes that the project would get made. This is a project, like many others, that was achieved thanks to the love for cinema of many of the members of the crew.

Naturally, I’m worried about distribution and getting into as many festivals as possible, however the submission process to these also requires planning and financial investment. —Renato Moncayo Dávalos, director
