If you think you could be the next top horror director, Universal Studios Hollywood may be able to start you on your way. As part of this year’s Halloween Horror Nights, which will feature a host of creepy attractions (including a haunted backlot), Universal is holding a short film competition with the theme “Where Nightmares Come Alive.” The final 10 films, which are posted online until September 22, were chosen (by horror veterans Don Mancini, Bill Moseley and Corey Feldman) based upon suspense, relevance to theme and “chill factor.” Now it’s up to the public to vote on the winner, who will be announced on September 25.

The chosen moviemaker (who will also win a $1,000 cash prize) will then have the privilege to see their film screened at the Eyegore Awards, a Halloween Horror Nights event honoring the horror and sci-fi genres that will feature an audience of celebrities (past award recipients include Janet Leigh, Rob Zombie and Joss Whedon) and studio executives.

For more information on the contest or to cast your vote, visit www.halloweenhorrornights.com/nightmares.
