Know the Rules
There used to be three main windows in digital distribution:
- Transactional video on demand—any online or cable platform where you can go to buy or rent a film like iTunes, Googleplay, or Comcast On Demand.
- Subscription video on demand—any platform where you are paying a monthly fee to access a library of content like Netflix, Amazon Prime, FilmStruck
- Ad-supported video on demand–any place you can watch content for free with ad breaks within it like Hulu.
These three windows used to follow each other in an orderly fashion, one after the other.
