Showtime’s Tony Cox Screenplay Competition provides—in addition to a $5,000 cash prize and an all-expense paid trip to the Nantucket Film Festival in June—a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in the Screenwriters Colony annual, month-long retreat to Nantucket, under the guidance of established film professionals. Competition finalists are invited to a Mentor’s Brunch where they can discuss their projects with the Festival’s Screenwriters Tributee. The Competition has also served as a launching platform for promising screenwriters. Writer/director Debra Granik won the Competition in 2002 for her scrip t Down to the Bone. Her new film, Winter’s Bone, leads the 2010 award season with an impressive number of nominations.
