Coolest Film Festivals: Sub-Genre Competition Begins With The “Other” Category (For Lack Of A Better Title)

For the past month, MovieMaker has been running our “Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals” contest, asking our readers to pare down a list of 80 reader-nominated festivals into a final 25. These 80 festivals comprised our “General” category, all-encompassing festivals, like Cannes and Sundance.

While the top 25 voting has ended, we’re happy to announce the official beginning of sub-genre competition, beginning with the “Other” category (for lack of a better title). Scroll down to the bottom of this article to begin voting right away!

Festivals categorized as “Other” often screen more specific material, as do most of our other sub-genres; however, while some sub-genres are more widespread (Shorts, Horror/Sci-Fi, Women’s, and LGBT, for example), these genres are more limited and specific in content. The “Other” category is a uniquely distinct group composed of many different varieties of film festivals. Competing in this diverse category are Sports, Student, Children’s, and Animation among many other especially genre-specific film festivals.

Here’s how it works: The 40 festivals in this round that receive the most votes will win a spot on our top 10 coolest “Other” festivals list. All the festivals that make our final list will appear in print in the Fall issue of MovieMaker. This round will end Monday at 4pm, so make sure to get your vote in before then!

How do you ensure that your favorite festival makes the top 10? Tell your family, friends, co-workers, anyone and everyone to vote, vote, vote!

To browse all 40 of this week’s competing festivals and vote, click on the arrows to the right or left of the voting bar (you’ll need to hover your cursor over the edge of the bar until the translucent arrows appear).

Voting for the Other category has concluded. Thank you for participating!

MovieMaker will be releasing the official list of Coolest Festivals as the fall issue hits stands October 21. We know it’s a long time to wait, but as the old says goes, patience is a virtue. Meanwhile, make sure to vote in categories ranging from Environmental to Experimental over the next two months. Be sure to check back tomorrow, Tuesday, August 6 for our Horror/Sci-Fi category and Thursday, August 8 for Shorts. Below is a list of the festivals that competed in the Other category.
