Maya Hawke Vows to ‘Burn’ Her Bully ‘to the Ground’ in Netflix’s Do Revenge Trailer (Video)

Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes star as two scorned teenage girls who make a pact to make each others’ bullies pay in the trailer for Netflix’s new high school drama Do Revenge.

“I don’t want to make her pay,” Hawke’s character Eleanor, a tom boyish alt girl, says of the bully who ruined her life. “I want to burn her to the ground.”

“Whoa. You’re giving off some serious Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction energy,” jokes Mendes’ character Drea, a fallen it-girl with incredible style who’s hell-bent on getting back her former glory.

“Glennergy,” Eleanor replies.

Netflix calls Do Revenge “a subverted Hitchcock-ian dark comedy featuring the scariest protagonists of all: teenage girls.”

What follows is an epic mission to infiltrate an extremely preppy prep school and exact revenge. For Drea, it’s the ex-boyfriend who leaked her nudes.

“Max ruined my life. He’ll never get away with this,” Drea says.

For Eleanor, it’s the girl who started a “nasty rumor” that Eleanor “tried to hold her down and kiss her.”

“Turned me into this predator. She destroyed me,” Eleanor says.

Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Do Revenge also stars Rish Shah, Talia Ryder, Jonathan Daviss, Maia Reficco, Paris Berelc, Alisha Boe and Sophie Turner.

With the success of Netflix series like Stranger Things — of which Hawke is an alum — and The Society, the high school drama is definitely a genre worth mining. Sprinkle some Gossip Girl preppiness on top with a vaguely Wes Anderson-y retro vibe — we know period piece energy kills it on Netflix thanks to Bridgerton — and you’ve got a recipe for a Top 10 hit movie. And Do Revenge does not skimp on the snappy one-liners.

“Is ‘do revenge’ even like, correct grammar?” Eleanor asks.

Drea replies: “Oh, I’m sorry, Schoolhouse Rock, are you dragging my sentence structure right now?”

Do Revenge begins streaming on Netflix on Sept. 16.
