In Theaters Now: Madea Goes To Jail, Fired Up & Eleven Minutes

Madea Goes to Jail
directed by Tyler Perry

When larger-than-life grandma Madea (Tyler Perry) gets thrown in jail for her latest antics, she meets an array of colorful characters, including a downward-spiraling prostitute (Keshia Knight Pulliam of “The Cosby Show”) in desperate need of Madea’s tough love. Co-starring Derek Luke (Notorious) and Vanessa Ferlito (Death Proof), this is the third movie featuring Perry’s Madea character. The wildly successful writer-director-star’s previous work has received less-than-stellar reviews and Madea Goes to Jail will probably get the same critical treatment, although that won’t prevent Perry’s huge fan base from checking out the latest misadventures of a man in drag.

Fired Up!
directed by Will Gluck

In this sure-to-be-inane comedy, Eric Christian Olsen (Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd) and Nicholas D’Agosto (“Heroes”) play popular high school jocks who decide to ditch football training for cheerleading camp in the hopes of hooking up with some girls (including Disturbia’s Sarah Roemer). With its stale premise, FU (as the poster calls it… hardy har) appears to be yet another dimwitted teen sex comedy. Let’s just hope the movie’s funniest joke isn’t the preposterous name of the screenwriter: Freedom Jones.

Eleven Minutes
directed by Michael Selditch & Robert Tate

This documentary chronicles the year-long journey of fashion designer Jay McCarroll (season one winner of “Project Runway”) as he prepares his first independent runway show at New York’s Fashion Week, and the subsequent selling of his clothing line to stores. Die-hard “Project Runway” fans will probably line up around the block for Eleven Minutes. If the movie’s limited focus doesn’t capture a wider audience though, it might only last eleven minutes in theaters.
