Living in Emergency Premieres Without Borders

Doctors Without Borders, or Médecins Sans Frontières, has spent 38 years providing free emergency medical care to countries devastated by war. On Monday, December 14, the first-ever uncensored, in-depth look at the organization will hit theaters nationwide in one of the more unique documentary screenings to date—featuring a post-screening Q&A session broadcast live to each theater.

Living in Emergency: Stories of Doctors Without Borders, Mark N. Hopkins’ directorial debut, follows four Nobel Peace Prize-winning physicians through the Congo and Liberia as they aid as many desperate people as possible while struggling with their own limitations. The documentary has already won the Special Jury Award at the Cinequest Film Festival and is one of the final 15 films being considered for a Documentary Feature nomination at the 82nd Academy Awards.

With the positive press for the doc continuing to build, on Monday, December 14 at 7:30 pm (EST), the film will be shown at more than 440 theaters around the country. Following the screening, a live Q&A session hosted by “20/20″’s Emmy Award-winning investigative journalist Elizabeth Vargas will take place at the Skirball Center at New York University—and will be broadcast live by Fathom Events to every other theater screening the movie. Panelists will include The Perfect Storm author Sebastian Junger, Doctors Without Borders-USA’s executive director Sophie Delaunay and two of the films featured physicians, Dr. Krueger and Dr. Brasher.

Tickets for the one-night event can be purchased online at www.skirballcenter.nyu.edu. For more information about the documentary, visit www.livinginemergency.com.
