His First Hit Single Was About a Very Specific Predilection


If you think of Little Richard as one of those sweet, toothless nostalgia acts who made toe-tappers for grandparents about his poodle-skirted girlfriends, I Am Everything will change your mind.

“Tutti Frutti,” the 1955 first hit single for Little Richard (born Richard Wayne Penniman) was about a girl named Sue who “knows just what to do” and a girl named Daisy “who almost drives me crazy.” But the opening lines were originally “Tutti Frutti, good booty,” and things got more explicit from there.
