John Barry is a deeply respected set designer, responsible for the Korova Milk Bar in A Clockwork Orange, the cantina in Star Wars, and the Fortress of Solitude in Superman, among other starkly original film locales. But when it came time to make his own film, Saturn 3, things fell apart.
The setup for Saturn 3 is fine: Farrah Fawcett and Kirk Douglas are a May-December Adam and Eve in space. Then Harvey Keitel arrives. With a clumsy robot named Hector.
MovieMaker is incredibly proud to present the story of John Barry in the latest episode of The Industry, a podcast by Dan Delgado. After years of admiring The Industry, we’ve made a formal partnership with Dan to deliver you his smart, sardonic, detail-packed history of some of the strangest stories in the history of Hollywood. Imagine the sweep of You Must Remember This crossed with the sensibility of How Did This Get Made.
Dan incorporates deep-dive research with rare audio and interviews with the survivors of these often-strange stories. You can listen on Apple, Spotify, or right here, by clicking the arrow:

John Barry escaped from Saturn 3 just in time to work on the sequel to Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back. But from there, his story took a tragic turn.
Barry, one of the greatest production designers in Hollywood history, is sometimes confused with another John Barry, the British composer best known for the James Bond theme. By the end of this episode, you’ll know quite a bit about the histories of both John Barry the builder of cinematic worlds and John Barry the creator of cinematic scores.
Though this is the first episode of The Industry presented by MovieMaker, we strongly recommend checking out past episodes of The Industry, which cover everything from Michael Cimino’s attempted comeback after Heaven’s Gate to the history of the disco sci-fi musical The Apple.

I agree... Dan is a fantastic Podcaster and I'm glad to see him and The Industry getting recognized! Long time listener and fan!
Great to hear about John. The British were and still are one of the best in the business, I mean, after all isn't that why George Lucas chose them for their Art Department to design and build the sets, costumes, creature and special effects? Jim Henson too.
