Joe Alwyn Speaks; Elizabeth Olsen Gets ‘Feisty’; Simply Chris Evans

A rare glimpse into the mind of movie actor and boyfriend of Taylor Swift, Joe Alwyn; Elizabeth Olsen gets “feisty” when people trash-talk Marvel movies; Chris Evans does it all by simply existing. All in today’s Movie News Rundown.

Chris Evans: Chris Evans, Chris Evans, Chris Evans. Need I say more? The Captain America star appears to be trending on Twitter today simply because he was photographed in London filming Ghosted with Ana de Armas. It’s their latest film together since Knives Out and Netflix’s upcoming thriller The Gray Man (I saw an early screening and he’s very good in it). It seems that literally anything Chris Evans does sets his legions of Twitter stans aflame — especially holding his iPhone like he’s just now learning how to use it. Observe:

You’ve Got to Read This: Absolutely charming profile of The Favourite and The Last Letter From Your Lover actor Joe Alwyn by Vulture‘s Rachel Handler. The profile is hilariously obtuse regarding Alwyn’s hesitation to answer questions considering he’s the longtime boyfriend of Taylor Swift and that anything he says about their relationship will be infinitely gushed over by Swifties for roughly the next 100 years.

Julia: Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Oscar-shortlisted documentary, Julia, which tells the story of world-famous cooking icon Julia Child and hails from the directing team behind RBG, is making its television premiere on Monday, May 30 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. PT (8 p.m., 10 p.m. ET) on CNN. Here’s the trailer if you missed it.

Elizabeth Olsen Gets ‘Feisty’: When people such as Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola talk about Marvel movies as if they are “a lesser type of art.” The MCU star told The Independent on Saturday:I’m not saying we’re making indie art films, but I just think it takes away from our crew, which bugs me. These are some of the most amazing set designers, costume designers, camera operators – I feel diminishing them with that kind of criticism takes away from all the people who do award-winning films, that also work on these projects. From an actor’s point of view, whatever, I get it; I totally understand that there’s a different kind of performance that’s happening. But I do think throwing Marvel under the bus takes away from the hundreds of very talented crew people. That’s where I get a little feisty about that.”

Well: That’s that on that. You heard Wanda!

Advice From COVID Moviemakers: Jamie Meltzer and Chandler Clarke gave moviesmakers advice on how to get people to watch your movies, especially when they’re about COVID-19. You can read that right here. I thought it was particularly interesting how Clarke found conducting interviews over Zoom to be “more intimate than any in-person interviews I’ve conducted in my career.”

Dirty Dancing Sequel: Longshot director Jonathan Levine will direct and co-write a Lionsgate sequel to 1987’s Dirty Dancing slated for a 2024 release starring Jennifer Grey, who will reprise her role as Frances “Baby” Houseman. To quote Variety‘s Rebecca Rubin: “No word as to whether she’ll be in a corner.”

What About Havana Nights? Are we just forgetting this happened?

Léa Seydoux: Explains that she’s a “fatalist” and that one should stay very hydrated when attending Cannes — because of the emotional and physical hangovers, of course — in a new profile by The Hollywood Reporter. She also discusses her upcoming role opposite Viggo Mortensen and Kristen Stewart in David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future.
