In Theaters Now: Cedar Rapids, Gnomeo and Juliet, The Eagle & More

Not gonna lie: I’m not a fan of “The Office” and I didn’t care for The Hangover, so I wasn’t immediately tempted to put this new Ed Helms movie on my must-see list. However, I really like Helms’ co-stars (John C. Riley, Anne Heche and Alia Shawkat), and I’m curious to see if Helms brings anything to his role as a small-town-guy sent to represent his firm at an insurance convention in Cedar Rapids.

The Eagle

Channing Tatum stars as a breastplate-wearing, sword-wielding Roman warrior in The Eagle. Tatum and his servant, played by Jamie Bell, set off in search of the golden emblem that represented the lost legion of which Tatum’s father was commander. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather see these boys cut a rug in Step Up 54 and Billy Elliot: the College Years than watch The Eagle.

Gnomeo and Juliet

I love Shakespeare adaptations. Who doesn’t? This latest computer animated release, from Rocket Pictures and Starz Animation, is–if you haven’t already figured it out–based on Romeo and Juliet and tells the story of two garden gnomes whose love is forbidden by their feuding families. James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Maggie Smith and Michael Caine lend their vocal talents to the flick, while Elton John contributes original music. Shakespeare, gnomes and Elton? Sounds like a winning combination.

Just Go With It
Directed by Dennis Dugan
Just Go With It marks the seventh collaboration between Adam Sandler and director Dennis Dugan. Their new romantic comedy features Sandler as a man who pretends to be unhappily married in order to attract women. After his strategy backfires, he recruits his friend (Jennifer Aniston) to pretend to be his soon-to-be ex-wife. Neither Sandler or Aniston’s last few movies have been well received. Let’s hope their collaboration proves to make this film a success, though I doubt it will.

Justin Bieber: Never Say Never
Directed by Jon Chu
Unfortunately, I’m obligated to write a few lines about this movie, otherwise I would pretend it doesn’t exist and that all is still right with the world. Anyway. Fans of the Bieb will enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at his 2010 tour, which also features some home movie footage. Those of you who are terminally infected with Bieber Fever will probably want to catch this in 3D.
