I.O.U.S.A Wants You to Take Action

From An Inconvenient Truth (2006) to Sicko (2007), movies are becoming the choice medium for exposing societal problems in an effort to fuel change. Patrick Creadon’s I.O.U.S.A. is another documentary intent on exposing America’s troubles, this time taking a harsh look at our current economic situation and offering suggestions on how to make the nation financially secure for the future. The film is not just a presentation of the facts, however; the minds behind it have decided to take a more proactive role in making sure their movie inspires dialogue among viewers.

For its August 21st premiere I.O.U.S.A.’s producers (Agora Financial and Agora Entertainment) will simulcast a live-panel discussion with Warren Buffet and other top financial experts in theaters across the country. By opening up the floor for discussion immediately after the film is screened, Agora hopes to create a “town hall” atmosphere to get people talking and “bridge the gap between those who recognize the magnitude of the situation and ordinary Americans who are unaware of the forces that are threatening our country,” explains Addison Wiggin, executive producer of I.O.U.S.A. and co-author of its companion book (set for an October release).

I.O.U.S.A.’s premiere is just part of an effort to take control of a major issue facing our country, an effort that Wiggin hopes “will empower viewers and readers to demand a change in policy and will serve as a wake-up call for our nation’s leaders and policymakers that changes—giant, sweeping changes—must be made.”
