Early motion capture practices have been around since the 18th century.

However, it’s only much more recently that the technology has become a staple in all manners of media production. Now, moviemakers, video game designers and animators can track the tiniest movements of people or objects to use when mimicking those actions in their own digital models.

The following infographic, brought to you by performance capture company Animatrik and creative agency Territory, is a quick study in the history, mechanics and uses of mo-cap technology. MM
