Harrison Ford Says Indiana Jones 5 Will ‘Kick Your Ass’

Harrison Ford is completely confident that his fifth and final Indiana Jones movie will “kick your ass.”

“I’m very proud to say that this one is fantastic,” Ford said at Disney’s D23 Expo on Saturday. “And this is one of the reasons,” he added, pointing to his co-star, Fleabag actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who was standing beside him.

The 80-year-old actor began to get emotional as he waxed poetic about what the adventure franchise means to him and all of the fans.

“Indiana Jones movies are about mystery and adventure, but they’re also about heart,” he said. “We have a really human story to tell as well — a movie that will kick your ass.”

He also confirmed that this will be his last time playing Indiana Jones.

“I’m delighted to be here again and maybe for — No. This is it. I will not fall down for you again,” Ford said with a smirk.

Not much is known about the plot of the fifth Indiana Jones film, which also stars Mads Mikkelsen stars alongside Ford and Waller-Bridge. Fans at D23 were treated to a first look at the trailer, which hasn’t been released online yet. But according to USA Today, the footage shows a retired Jones looking back on the past and saying wistfully, “I miss the adventure.” He gets his wish and is pulled back into the fold with Waller-Bridge’s character Helena. The footage shows Ford riding a horse through New York City. It also shows Mikkelsen wearing a Nazi uniform.

At D23, Ford also thanked director James Mangold, who took over directing for Steven Spielberg for the first time in the franchise’s history. Spielberg directed the first four Indiana Jones films, starting with Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981 and ending with The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008. Spielberg still serves as an executive producer on Indiana Jones 5, however.

“Thank you to Mangold for picking up the pieces and making a spectacular, spectacular film,” Ford said.

Mangold also told the crowd on Saturday how much it meant to him to be able to direct an Indiana Jones movie.

“I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark in… Middletown, New York in high school and it’s one of the reasons I became a film director,” Mangold said, according to Business Insider.

“I found myself living out a kind of fantasy I had when I was in high school, which was wondering what it would feel like to make one of these pictures and all the time honoring, in my own mind, what these movies are for you and for me and trying to bring that back again this year,” Mangold added.

Indiana Jones 5 arrives in theaters on June 30, 2023.
