Today the 4th Annual NYC Food Film Festival put film buff foodies on high alert with a call for entries in categories including feature-length, short and super-short films for the 2010 Festival. Screenings (and tastings) will be held June 23rd-27th in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens venues.

A celebration of food and film, the Festival is the only one of its kind in the world, a unique multi-sensory experience where filmgoers are able to taste the foods featured in the films. George Motz, Director of the NYC Food Film Festival says, “There’s something about watching food films that makes you want to eat. In just 3 short years, the NYC Food Film Festival has become the world’s largest food film festival, New Yorkers have really responded.”

In 2009, acclaimed director Ron Mann called the festival “his absolute favorite” after his film, Know Your Mushrooms, was screened and followed by a 10-course mushroom-inspired tasting menu from Next Iron Chef star Brad Farmerie of Public and Double Crown. Other past events have included a screening of Whole Hog by Joe York, during which over 1000 people feasted on whole hog barbeque courtesy of R.U.B. BBQ NYC. Following a screening of the food film classic Big Night, the audience enjoyed a re-creation of the famous Timpano featured in the film. Free food and film, what’s not to love!

The NYC Food Film Festival welcomes all films that celebrate food. All genres are eligible for entry, including: documentary, animation, narrative, instructional and food porn. Filmmakers can compete in five categories for the prestigious Slotted Spoon Award. Spoons will be presented at the closing ceremonies in the following categories: Best Feature (over 45 min.), Best Short (5 to 45 min.), Best Super-Short (under 5 min.), Audience Choice Award (chosen by text message voting) and the Made In NY Award.

The submission form is online at: http://www.nycfoodfilmfestival.com and the official deadline is March 31, 2010 for all films.
