IFP, the nation’s oldest and largest organization of independent moviemakers, presents the Gotham Independent Film Award Series. The three-week program of screenings and panel discussions will highlight the work of nominees and honorees from the 18th Annual Gotham Independent Awards, which take place on December 2.
The series will give New Yorkers the opportunity to meet with moviemakers such as Gus Van Sant (Milk) and Rosemarie DeWitt (Rachel Getting Married), as well as a chance to see the nominees for “Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You, “ the Gotham Award for the best American independent movies yet to be picked up for theatrical distribution.
Other events include: MoMA’s Modern Mondays, The Breakthrough Director’s Panel, Volver screening, The Breakthrough Actor’s panel, Melvin Van Peebles screenings, special screening of Gus Van Sant’s Milk and a Q&A with the director and a conversation with HBO Documentary Films president Sheila Nevins.
The series, which IFP executive director Michelle Byrd says, “gives New Yorkers a chance to see up close some of the most talked about and acclaimed independent film talent of the year,” will take place from November 20 to December 6. For more information visit www.ifp.org.
