GEN ART CHICAGO FILM FESTIVAL

Gen Art Film Festival presented by Acura

The Gen Art Film Festival, which showcases emerging independent filmmakers, was founded twelve years ago in 1996. The accessibility and consumer focus of the festival has driven many first time festival attendees into theaters to see the freshest crop of independent films. The Gen Art Film Festival’s format is extremely unique when compared with virtually all other U.S. film festivals which debut literally hundreds of films geared towards industry oriented audiences and which never include ticket holders in the official after-party for each premiere.

The 2006 festival produced several stand-out films including the audience award winner, Scott Glosserman’s “Behind the Mask” a very unique horror film which just enjoyed a wide theatrical release on March 16, 2007. Also the jury award winner, “Wristcutters: A Love Story” directed by Goran Dukic, which was recently nominated for two 2007 Independent Spirit Awards, was just picked up for an August theatrical release by After Dark. And the film “Live Free or Die” was picked up for theatrical distribution by ThinkFilm, for release later this month. And the film formerly entitled “Shut Up & Sing” will be theatrically released in April under a new title.
